Computer Literacy
The term “computer literacy” refers to a persons ability to use a computers software and hardware. This includes the following, a computer keyboard and mouse, various software applications such as word processing and spread sheet software, communication tools, such as internet and email.
Why is computer literacy necessary?
In most places of business a computer is standard, which are necessary used in most work environment, no matter which work environment you are, there is a good change a computer will be a basic tool you will have to use. Computer literacy does not mean you need to know how to use single piece of software you may encounter. It does not mean you need to know how to write programs or network computers.
You just need to know some basics – how to save and open a file, how to use a word processing programs, and how to send and receive email. Basics computer course s skills are offered at WB MPC Trust. WB MPC Trust trains primarily the out-school-youth and the community on IT. The aim is for them to enter the job market and reduce the impact of unemployment in the community of Walvis Bay . There are four session in a week. The class lasts for conveniently scheduled of two months they is usually reasonably minimum fee of N$ 250.00 which also includes the course materials. This minimum fee is used to subscribe facilitators incentive. Sine 2002 WB MPC Trust has trained over 900+ IT students. Basic computer training includes: Introduction to computer (Hardware & Software), Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Internet and Typing. At the end of each session certificates are given out to the graduates.
The donation of the used computers received from NED BANK Namibia, one of the largest local banks in the country, the basic computer training courses expanded to equip more students in the class.
The 1st Intake of the computer training has already completed their course, whereby 50 students graduated and received their certificated. The 2nd Intake is in full swing and hopes to finish their course in July. The 3rd Intake registration will take in June and class will start in the middle of July, date will be confirmed.
